The risk is so high that many package delivery companies intentionally plan driver paths to reduce how often they turn left. Obviously, turning left is a perfectly legal maneuver, and drivers do not have to give up making left turns entirely.

Still, those who recognize how dangerous a left-hand turn could be might make slightly safer choices in traffic. They might choose a different way to get to the grocery store so that they can turn right to enter the driveway instead of turning left at a busy location. They might also avoid turning left at intersections with high traffic density and during rush hour.

Even if someone is cautious about when they turn and they consistently use their turn signals, they could end up hit by someone who doesn’t pay attention in traffic.
